Terms of Service
Last updated: July 16, 2026
Welcome to The CommonWires network of local news publications. By using any of our websites, newsletters, podcasts, or games (together, "the Service"), you agree to these terms.
1. What the Service is
Each network publication is a local news and lifestyle service for its city or region: news briefings, weather analysis, sports coverage and commentary, recipes, lifestyle tips, travel guides, entertainment picks, daily games, newsletters, and a daily audio briefing.
2. AI-generated content
Our content is generated by AI systems from public records, cited sources, and official data feeds (for example, the National Weather Service, official league statistics APIs, government meeting records, and public reference works), and is run through automated fact-checking — including verification against independent web sources — before publication. Content that cannot be verified is held for review. We label AI-generated imagery, cite sources on stories, and show how key facts were checked.
Despite these safeguards, automated journalism can contain errors. Content is provided "as is" for general information. If you spot an error, tell us at corrections@commonwires.com — we correct promptly and note material corrections.
3. Not professional advice
- Weather content is analysis, not an official warning system — in severe weather, follow the National Weather Service and local emergency officials.
- Lifestyle and home tips are general guidance. For electrical, gas, structural, or roof work, hire a licensed professional. Never mix cleaning products.
- Recipes: confirm food doneness with a thermometer; check your own allergies.
- Travel guides: confirm hours, prices, entry requirements, and openings before you go.
- Nothing on the Service is medical, legal, financial, or investment advice.
4. Sports content, commentary, and betting information
Sports coverage is built from official statistics. Clearly labeled opinion and commentary (fan columns, power rankings notes, poll notes) reflects an editorial voice, not fact claims. Where betting-related content or sportsbook offers appear at all, they are informational, restricted to states where sports wagering is legal, intended only for people 21 or older, and never a guarantee of outcomes. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
5. Advertising, affiliate links, and commerce
The Service is supported by advertising, sponsorships, and affiliate programs. Some links — including Amazon Associates links in product lists and travel booking links (flights, hotels, experiences, car rental, insurance, eSIM) — pay us a commission if you make a purchase, at no extra cost to you. Affiliate placements carry a disclosure where they appear. We choose products and partners editorially; commissions never change reported facts. Purchases you make with third parties are governed by their terms.
6. Newsletters, referrals, and accounts
Newsletters are free; unsubscribe anytime via the link in any email. Referral rewards, where offered, require genuine signups — self-referral or automated signups void rewards.
7. Games
Daily games are for entertainment. Streaks and completion live in your browser. No purchase, no prizes, no wagering.
8. Your conduct
Don't scrape at abusive volume, attempt to breach or overload the Service, misrepresent affiliation with us, or use the Service for unlawful purposes. We may block access that violates these terms.
9. Intellectual property
The Service's content, brands, and design are owned by The CommonWires or its licensors. You may share links and brief quotations with attribution; republishing substantial content requires permission. Third-party trademarks — including sports team names, which we use only to refer to the teams — belong to their owners; no endorsement is implied. Some imagery comes from Wikimedia Commons under its free licenses, and weather imagery from public-domain government sources.
Copyright complaints: send DMCA notices to legal@commonwires.com with the work identified, the URL on our Service, and your contact and signature.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE COMMONWIRES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR DECISIONS MADE IN RELIANCE ON SERVICE CONTENT; OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100). Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Indemnity, governing law, changes
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the Service. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes belong in the state or federal courts located in Ohio. We may update these terms; continued use after an update is acceptance. Material changes will be noted by the date above.
